Frequently asked questions

01 Is the school recognized by the Senegalese government? +

Yes, Les Colibris is registered under NINEA 009592579 and operates legally as an alternative school in Senegal. Our Montessori pedagogy is compatible with a return to mainstream schooling or with continuing into an international program.

02 How will my child adapt to a mainstream school if they leave Montessori? +

Montessori children develop strong adaptability, autonomy and concentration. Most families who transition observe that their child integrates quickly and continues to learn with pleasure, even in a more formal setting.

03 What level of English do the educators have? +

The school is bilingual French-English. Our 6-12 educator, Jimmy, is a native English speaker (Kenyan) and teaches in English part of the day. Other educators speak and present materials in English to varying degrees.

04 Is there a transport service? +

We do not currently organise school transport. Several families share carpools from Saly, Ngaparou and Mbour. We can connect you with other parents when you enroll.

05 What is the adult-to-child ratio per environment? +

Children's Community (18 months-3 years): one adult per ~5 children. Children's House (3-6 years): one adult per ~8 children. Elementary (6-12 years): one main educator with a group of ~15 students.

06 What happens after 12 years old? And after 15? +

Our Montessori middle school (12-15 years) opens in September 2026, the first on the Petite Côte. For 15-18, we are working on a future high school project. In the meantime, many families continue in the international or French system.

07 What does a typical day look like? +

Drop-off from 7:45am, school starts at 8:30am. The morning is dedicated to Montessori activities chosen freely with presentation by the educator, in a calm atmosphere. Lunch break with a balanced meal prepared on site. The afternoon alternates activities, group projects and outdoor time. End of day at 3:00pm (12:30pm on Wednesday).

08 Is a trial period possible? +

Before enrollment, we systematically organise an information meeting and a school visit with the teaching team. It's an opportunity to observe an environment and ask all your questions. A guided adaptation period is offered to newly enrolled children.
